The Name:

Ardea is latin for heron. It is the name given to the genus that includes great blue herons (Ardea herodias) and great egrets (Ardea alba). The name fits the boat well- simple and a little elegant- but it stuck because those majestic birds can be found in all the places the crew of Ardea calls home.

BOAT PROJECTS

Connor purchased Ardea from her previous owner in Long Beach, California. Though the boat was in great shape for her age at the time, the last year has seen many projects aimed at re-fitting and upgrading to make Ardea an oceangoing vessel, not to mention a home.

We will post details about the projects on Ardea in the near future (to the blog page- you can sort the blog for boat projects using the Labels gadget on the right side of the Home screen). As many know, boat projects never end and there is always more to learn. Our hope is that by sharing our experiences, including the tribulations, we can help or inspire others who, like us, are die-hard do-it-yourselfers who need to stretch their pennies across the Pacific. In that vein, we would be happy to provide more details, photographs, etc. to help others with similar projects. Just ask via the comment box and please be patient with our response time.

  1. “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
    Best wishes on your journey.
